All our services at Trinity are special because, as we gather around Word and Sacrament, God is present in our midst and our lives are renewed. Yet throughout the year there are special occasions and celebrations that we observe together. Of course, the festivals and seasons of the church year — Advent, Christmas, Lent, Holy Week, Easter, Pentecost and Thanksgiving, are marked by special times of worship and praise. Additionally, there are commemorations and worship events throughout the year that recognize God’s goodness in our lives.
Lent – The Heart of God Revealed to Hearts Made New
This year, Ash Wednesday falls on Valentine’s Day, February 14, giving us an opportunity to meditate on the heart of God as we pray for a renewal of our hearts in this season of preparation and repentance.
Ash Wednesday worship is at 12:05 PM (in the chapel) and 7:30 PM (in the Nave). Each liturgy includes Holy Communion and the Imposition of Ashes. (It is not sacrilegious to have a Valentine’s Day date before or after Ash Wednesday worship.)
Sundays in Lent explore the theme of God’s covenant with stories of promise, blessing and transformation. The liturgy will be simplified in this season, as we celebrate God’s promises with a sense of restraint and anticipation, awaiting the fullness of the Easter feast.
Wednesday noonday worship (in the chapel at 12:05) will feature readings associated with the Easter Vigil, each providing a description of God, a metaphor of the resurrection and a link to baptism. The readings will be accompanied by the projection of artwork to guide our understanding and meditation on these stories of salvation. Worship will last about 30 minutes and soup will be offered in the Hintz Room following the service.
Common Ground Recovery worship continues to meet at 4:00 PM each Sunday in the Auditorium. This meaningful service of Word, Sacrament, Meal and healing conversation is open to the entire community, including all members of Trinity. Experience God’s grace in a new way through Common Ground.
