More than 20 years ago, the Souper Bowl of Caring began with a simple prayer from a single youth group: Lord, as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us to be mindful of those without even a bowl of soup to eat.
Since 1990, ordinary young people have generated an extraordinary more than $100 million for soup kitchens, food banks and other charities in communities across the country through Souper Bowl of Caring. It has become a powerful movement that is transforming the time around Super bowl weekend into the nation’s largest celebration of giving and serving.
On this Sunday, look for the youth of Trinity who will be collecting donations for both our neighborhood Lutheran Pantry at St. John’s and the ELCA World Hunger appeal. We are also collecting OATMEAL for the Pantry (no instant, please). As you root for your favored team, be part of this movement that is sharing God’s love with those in need.
