“Christian education is at the very heart of the church.”
In the educational process the Spirit of God encounters people of all ages so that they are nurtured in faith, grow in knowledge and experience, and are inspired and empowered to live as disciples of Jesus Christ. This call to discipleship compels us to share our faith and serve others in the home, the community, and in God’s world.
At Trinity we encourage all of our members to be engaged in learning ministries.
Sunday Mornings:
Our formal Christian Education begins in pre-school, when children join our Sunday School program. Our Sunday School curriculum focuses on core biblical stories of the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament.
Youth in grades 7 and up meet on Sundays for service projects (like serving breakfast at Opportunity House) and for learning and fellowship. We tailor the Sunday schedule to the needs of the families and teens.
Sunday Forum is held in the auditorium from 9:30-10:30 (or so) each Sunday from September through May. A variety of discussions and Bible studies are offered. In the past we have hosted professors from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, directors of local not-for-profit organizations, and programs led by members and staff. Check out the Steeple Notes calendar to see what is happening this month.
Interactive Cross+Generational programs are held during Advent and Lent, providing hands-on learning for all ages.
A staffed nursery is available for younger children during the 11:00 worship service (and 9:30 summer service.)
Catechetical Instruction aka ChAOS:
Youth in grades 6-8+ are invited to participate in the ChAOS program (that’s Catechism And Other Stuff.) The curriculum includes learning about the 10 Commandments, Lord’s Prayer, Apostles’ Creed, Sacraments and Lutheran history and practice. ChaOS typically meets for 2 semester blocks: 8 weeks in the fall and 6:30-8:00 pm . We also participate in various service projects including the CROP Walk, West Berks Mission District Bowlathon, and Christmas caroling to our shut-in members.
Bible Studies and Discussion Groups:
Thursday Mornings 10:00 am – Bible Break explores the lectionary readings for the upcoming Sunday worship, encouraging open discussion about the Scripture’s meaning for daily life. Newcomers are always welcome. No previous Bible study experience is necessary!
Seasonal Advent and Lenten Groups We often join our covenant partners from Christ Episcopal Church for a time of study and spiritual growth.
Trinity Book Discussion Group meets every other month in the homes of members of Trinity. The books are varied and the discussion is always lively. All are welcome to join in. (Even if you didn’t read the book for the month…)
Summer Ministries:
Each summer we offer various opportunities for kids and youth from service projects to music camps. Trinfinity Nights (never-ending fun and faith) are held throughout the summer both at Trinity and at various members’ homes.
In June 2018, our youth participated in a West Virginia service project helping with post flooding home rehabilitation including painting and small repairs.
We are always open to ideas and opportunities for growing in faith. If you have a dream, share it with others and perhaps a new venue for learning ministry will be formed!
